Courtney Lee’s technical foul may have cost the New York Knicks a road win on Wednesday.
There’s no doubt that referees in the NBA haven’t had much patience this season when it comes to players mouthing off. Wednesday night’s game between the New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies wasn’t an exception.
Knicks’ guard Courtney Lee was furious with the officials after Wednesday’s night’s loss to the Grizzlies after they hit him with a technical foul with 17 seconds remaining in the game.
The foul was costly because it enabled the Grizzlies to hit one free throw in order to give them a two possession lead.
As you can see in the video below that was posted by Knicks Wall on Twitter, Lee’s teammates had to hold him back after the final buzzer went off. He was furious with the officials.

After the game, Lee told reporters that he was hit with a tech after going back and forth with Grizzlies rookie Dillon Brooks.
C-Lee after words with Dillon Brooks got him T'd up: "The rookie grabbed my arm. I said, 'Get off me.' He said some other words. I said, 'Look you got the wrong one, Rook. You got the wrong one, young’un. He said, 'Who are you?' I said, 'You know who I am.' And then I get a tech.

The referee also explained why he gave Lee a tech and that bumped Brooks.
After Lee's locker-room diatribe, referee Derrick Stafford claimed Lee "bumped the kid'' in an interview with the pool reporter.

Players can complain all they want about the officials, but at the end of the day, they need to keep their cool. Especially when their team has a chance to win a close game on the road.
