Kristaps Porzingis is unable to carry the New York Knicks by himself.
After Wednesday night’s 121-103 loss to the Washington Wizards, New York Knicks’ star forward Kristaps Porzingis admitted that he’s worn out.
“Definitely. I’m tired. I’m tired. I’m so tired right now. I have one day now to rest my legs and then get back and play better and have more energy and also try and bring the team’s energy up.
“Also we’re in a tough stretch. The mental part doesn’t help at all. When it’s mentally tough you just don’t have it in you. It’s normal. It’s normal. It’s up and down. Get some rest, enjoy nice Miami weather and go try and win the Miami game.”
Porzingis blamed the fact that they played a game two nights in a row as a reason for their loss to the Wizards.
“It’s a back-to-back,” Porzingis said. “Not to make excuses but it’s always tougher to play the back-to-backs. I think it got to us. When it got tough, it was also tough mentally for us. Our energy just wasn’t there. They had three days rest and they came out fresh. We didn’t have it in the second half.”
Back-to-back games are tough, but the Knicks fell apart against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night even though they hadn’t played a game since Saturday.
Porzingis even admitted that he’s missing the presence of Tim Hardaway Jr.
“Obviously having Tim out doesn’t make it easier,’’ said Porzingis, who shot 5-of-13 with three turnovers. “Hopefully Tim will be back with us soon and take some of that pressure off me and other guys.’’
Porzingis is clearly wearing down and he’s not able to do carry the load all by himself. Not many players can and that’s OK.
While the Knicks were doing fine when Hardaway first got injured, they’re simply worn out and need more help on offense.
The fact of the matter is that the Knicks need more fire power than even Hardaway and this team is far away from becoming a championship contender.
