It’s time for the New York Knicks to find Kyle O’Quinn a new home.
A report came out on Friday that the New York Knicks are open to trading center Kyle O’Quinn if they end up falling out of playoff contention.
O’Quinn may not be a starter, but he’s been invaluable off the bench for the Knicks as a back up to Enes Kanter.
With how poorly the Knicks have been playing on the road this season and a majority of their upcoming games being away from Madison Square Garden over the next four weeks, it’s safe to say that they will take themselves out of playoff contention very soon.
Whether the Knicks are in the playoff hunt or not by the time the February 8th trade deadline rolls around, they need to trade O’Quinn.
O’Quinn won’t be back next season
O’Quinn has had a heck of year so far and there’s no way that he’s not going to decide to opt out of the final year of his contract next summer and get more money as a free agent.
It also won’t make sense for New York to pay O’Quinn due to the fact that they already have Kanter, Joakim Noah and Willy Hernangomez.
Knicks can easily replace O’Quinn
With all of the depth the Knicks have behind O’Quinn, it doesn’t make sense for them to keep him after the trade deadline. The best move for them would be to get a draft pick or a young player that can help them.
I know Hernangomez didn’t out play O’Quinn during the preseason, but he’s hungry to play and made it clear that he’s not happy about his current situation. It’s time for New York to get him back on the floor so they can continue to develop Hernangomez.
