Kristaps Porzingis wants New York Knicks’ fans to give Carmelo Anthony a warm welcome when he returns to Madison Square Garden.
New York Knicks’ star Kristaps Porzingis is encouraging the fans to show Carmelo Anthony some love on Saturday night when he returns to Madison Square Garden as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“I think he was as professional as he can be in his time here in New York, so I don’t see why they would not receive him with love,” Porzingis said Thursday, via ESPN.com.
Knicks’ starting shooting guard Courtney Lee appreciates the way Anthony handled himself prior to being traded.
“You’ve got to respect him being a professional, how he handled everything with the media last year,” Courtney Lee said Thursday.
Lee does believe some fans might boo Anthony.
“I think more cheers than anything,” Lee said. “You can’t fault the guy for going out there and playing hard and leaving it all out there on the court and just trying to help the team win. Whether it was the style that some fans wanted or didn’t want, he competed night in and night out.”
Booing Anthony doesn’t make sense. The Knicks trading him made sense for both him and the organization. You argue that they’re better off without him and with Enes Kanter, Doug McDermott and a high second round draft pick.
Anthony being sent away has allowed Porzingis to flourish and other players like Lee to step up.
