It’s still unclear when Tim Hardaway Jr. will return for the New York Knicks.
New York Knicks’ star Tim Hardaway Jr. has finally spoken out about the stress injury to his lower leg and he made it clear that it’s serious.
“This is serious,” Hardaway Jr. said, via the New York Post. “I’m going to take everything slow. This is a serious injury.”
Hardaway has been out for the past 12 days and has missed the Knicks past seven games. He was asked whether or not he thought he could be back in time for the new year.
“The goal is just to get better first,” Hardaway said before the Knicks faced the Nets at the Barclays Center on Thursday. “That’s the goal. I’m not giving myself no deadline. I don’t want to get to that point and be upset and down on myself. I don’t want to give myself a set date on when I should return. I’ll do what I can to get this right. When I’m confident and ready to go, then we’ll see.’’
The Post is reporting that if Hardaway has a stress fracture, he could be out for several weeks. He will be evaluated some time next week and hopefully we’ll have a better idea as to when he’ll be back in the line-up.
Hardaway was asked whether or not he has a stress fracture.
“I’m not going to rush it,” Hardaway said. “I’m going to wait until I’m 100 percent mentally ready to go. If it was the playoffs, I’d be out there right now. But you got to be smart and do what’s best for you. I trust the team. They’re playing hard, playing smart.”
With Hardaway sidelined, the Knicks initially had rookie Damyean Dotson start a couple of games in his place, but it became clear that he’s not the answer in the starting line-up. For the past few games, Lance Thomas has been starting and has looked good at times, but no one can replace Hardaway.
The Knicks have been getting by without Hardaway due to the fact that they have Kristaps Porzingis, but he’s had his own injury issues this season as well.
New York may not be one of the top teams in the NBA, but if their two best players can’t stay healthy, they won’t have a chance at making the playoffs this season.
