New York Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek did the right thing by benching his starters and Michael Beasley agrees.
The New York Knicks were a complete embarrassment on Monday night after being embarrassed by the Indiana Pacers.
Things were so bad that Knicks’ head coach Jeff Hornacek ended up benching his starters and he defended his move after the game.
“[The second unit] had more energy, they were quicker to everything,’’ Hornacek said. “The battle just wasn’t there for us tonight. It’s defensively, you’re missing two of your top scorers, you’ve got to do it with defense. You can’t afford to give up 64 percent [shooting] in the first half.’’
After the game, forward Michael Beasley defended Hornacek’s decision.
“We were playing bad,’’ said Michael Beasley, who started for Porzingis but committed five turnovers to go along with 13 points. “That’s what the coach is supposed to do. Put guys in the game that at least look like they want to play.”
The Knicks were quickly buried by Pacers due to poor defense right out of the gate. They left Hornacek no choice but to bench them with their sloppy play.
