The New York Knicks were ready to sign George Hill.
The New York Knicks would have a different looking situation at point guard if Phil Jackson was still in charge, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.
Berman has reported that Jackson was ready to sign point guard George Hill to run his triangle offense. He’s also close with both Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah.
According to an NBA source, if Jackson wasn’t ousted, Hill would now be the mentor for rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina. Not Jarrett Jack. Not Ramon Sessions.
According to the source, Jackson envisioned Hill being the type of cerebral guard to master the triangle offense and serve as a solid example for Ntilikina, whom the Zen Master tabbed eighth in the draft in June.
The source said Hill was ready to talk contract terms on July 1, interested in the New York assignment. Hill is friends with Knicks veterans Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah.
Once Jackson was fired, Hill decided to sign with the Sacramento Kings, where he is averaging 8.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. He’s now mentoring former Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox.
Current Knicks’ starting point guard, Jarrett Jack hhas comparable stats to Hill’s with 5.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. I would take his assist numbers over Hill’s.
