Derrick Rose makes it clear that he wasn’t happy with the New York Knicks last season.
On Wednesday night, Point guard Derrick Rose admitted that he’s a lot happier now that he’s with the Cleveland Cavaliers after playing for the New York Knicks last season.
“[With the Cavaliers], I get to do whatever I want,” Rose said, via the NY Post. “In New York, I couldn’t. It was just simple. That’s why I made the transition.”
“There wasn’t no freedom [with the Knicks],” Rose told The Post. “Here I got freedom.
“Coach Lue and the team have been doing a great job of letting me play the way that I want to play. So I can’t complain at all.”
Rose wanted to take advantage of fast breaks and get to the rim, but the Knicks didn’t want him to do that last season.
“That’s how I wanted to play last year,” Rose said. “But that never happened.”
Rose may not be the player he was earlier in his career, but the Knicks weren’t very smart to make him conform to their style. They’re a team that needs all the help them can get. It would have been smart to allow Rose to play the way he wanted to in hopes of getting more wins.
